Remember this <a href="http://sawitmadeit.blogspot.com/2016/02/one-thing-leads-to-another.html" target="_blank">post</a> about having to build my youngest a truck of her own?? Well, the other day I happened to be in my one of my favorite local salvage shop's when I spotted a toy truck. I liked the truck, I did not like the price ($60....no thanks). I asked the owner if I could take a picture of it, knowing that I could make my own version a WHOLE lot cheaper. <br />
<br /><br />
Ready to see what a $60 toy truck looks like???? Here you go.....<br />

Now I know I changed the design a bit but that's called creative freedom. I love the addition of the hitch for the trailer. I am also pretty excited about the washer rims. Ready for the cost??? This only cost me 11 cents to build. I say that's a steal!!!<br />
<br /><br />
The best thing is my daughter loves it and plays with everyday. The only problem is now she wants to keep both trucks. I guess I will be making another one very soon.</div>

I finally finished my dog food storage container. I was inspired by the plans over at Addicted 2 DIY http://<a href="http://addicted2diy.com/2015/07/31/diy-dog-food-station-with-storage/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">addicted2diy.com/2015/07/31/diy-dog-food-station-with-storage/</a> along with plans at Build <a href="http://buildsomething.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Something.com</a>. Although I really liked the one at Addicted 2 DIY, I felt it need a bit more for my taste. Using the one at Build Something as my inspiration, I was able to modify the plans from Addicted 2 DIY to come up with mine.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ4s8sXvN-VqyOkL5FXavrvCkqBNtNOgikvqXfMo56_vrSMHr2Jq2_FCcg04DFygjOKfS_djy417iW4YeBSceAwjLlryBvIkwsH22NaD8T0WGmU0-cW_4Xy7WV4Xs0QW3ZSx5HapnZs4wx/s1600/20160122_120549.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ4s8sXvN-VqyOkL5FXavrvCkqBNtNOgikvqXfMo56_vrSMHr2Jq2_FCcg04DFygjOKfS_djy417iW4YeBSceAwjLlryBvIkwsH22NaD8T0WGmU0-cW_4Xy7WV4Xs0QW3ZSx5HapnZs4wx/s320/20160122_120549.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /><br />
I finished the bottom using <a href="http://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/chalked/ultra-matte-paint">Rust-Oleum Chalked paint </a>in Charcoal and <a href="http://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/chalked/protective-top-coat/">Chalked Protective Topcoat</a> in matte clear. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW-ji-7aoJwc1dldt8N86NrUXwlqRXgu5-ZWS-9Wb0avQ0iLwBN26jH3RRWTEKyFF6hmzoy9w0bajmez3f0Otx7tqUKkAjnK6Orp-mH85ZjpbN5hzPgJmLK8SrXD41LiDSUDa7SJWWkk-6/s1600/20160213_105122.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW-ji-7aoJwc1dldt8N86NrUXwlqRXgu5-ZWS-9Wb0avQ0iLwBN26jH3RRWTEKyFF6hmzoy9w0bajmez3f0Otx7tqUKkAjnK6Orp-mH85ZjpbN5hzPgJmLK8SrXD41LiDSUDa7SJWWkk-6/s320/20160213_105122.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
<br /><br />
This was my first experience with this line of Rust-Oleum and it will not be my last! I love that one coat of the Chalked Charcoal was all I need do, no priming needed. The coverage was smooth and even. Even though applied with a brush, I saw no brush strokes when dried. One note though, I am glad I read the directions because shaking the container is not recommended. The matte clear finish goes on creamy but dries clear, protects your build and leaves a nice smooth finish when dry. Again I only used one coat and did not sanded between the painting and applying the protective topcoat.<br />
<br /><br />
For the top I used <a href="http://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/varathane/varathane-fast-dry-wood-stain">Rust-Oleum Varathane Fast Drying Stain in Gunstock</a>. I absolutely love the color!!! <br />
<br /><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqqZLGkKNowcQPqFJDMvw_NtzBeyU5OrFgVd7MgjgFn6GvQtanRHIstsNfWO4qYew8hLfzigOkJJ83dTuGF5esEbZm7QATmIK2yNdQ6O0OrIrSnz8-OCE8yX2NirRWpIGirUqX8vhoqZM6/s1600/20160213_102727.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqqZLGkKNowcQPqFJDMvw_NtzBeyU5OrFgVd7MgjgFn6GvQtanRHIstsNfWO4qYew8hLfzigOkJJ83dTuGF5esEbZm7QATmIK2yNdQ6O0OrIrSnz8-OCE8yX2NirRWpIGirUqX8vhoqZM6/s320/20160213_102727.jpg" width="180" /></a></div>
Varathane is a fast drying stain and a bit thicker than other stains I have used. The application was very easy. I applied using a rag, the coverage was smooth and even. I will be trying more colors, in fact the line even includes reds, blues and oranges. I finished with 2 coats of a satin poly I had.<br />

I love how it blends in with the house.<br />
<br /><br />
As a fan of <a href="http://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/painters-touch-ultra-cover-2x/gloss/">Rust-oleum Painter's Touch Ultra Coverage 2x Spray Paint</a>, I am glad I was given the opportunity to try other products by them. Having never before used any brand of chalk paint, I was completely surprised by it. I love how there is really no need to prime before painting. The coverage is even and the finish is beautiful, even without the protective topcoat(although I recommended using it). The Varathane stain was a breeze to use. The coverage was even and beautiful. And like the name says, it really did dry quick. Another plus I did not notice an odor, like I have with other stains. <br />
<br /><br />
Another great thing about Rust-oleum is <a href="https://creatorsstudio.chaordix.com/">Creators's Studio</a>, This online community is one of a kind. What makes this site different from others, is the interaction with the Rust-oleum moderators (who are great), the online polls, the challenges and rewards. This is site is full of wonderful people of all levels of DIY'ing. I have found the interaction between members to be really great. I think if you are even slightly interested in DIY you need to sign up (which is FREE).<br />

When I saw this <a href="http://thatsmyletter.blogspot.com/2015/12/diy-truck-shelf.html">truck shelf</a> by That's My Letter floating around all over social media at Christmas time, I knew I wanted to make it. Being a mom to two girls however meant I really didn't build trucks (or so I thought).<br />
<br /><br />
A few weeks ago, I was over taken with the building bug! It was a lazy Sunday and I just wanted to be building. As luck would have it, my nephew was turning 3 that week. Down to my work shop I went, I grabbed my plans and dug around in my scrap pile (because I used scraps, I had to modify the plans to fit what I had). <br />
<br /><br />
And built this handsome fella!<br />

The following Saturday we headed to his party. He opened his truck and set out to play with it. Sadly, this truck isn't a toy (the wheels are only on the front and do not turn) and he wasn't feeling it. Not wanting to disappoint the birthday boy, I promised to make a truck that he could play with and that I did!</div>

<div style="border-image: none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
And now I am in the process of not only building another truck but a trailer to hitch on to it. According to my quality control inspector there isn't enough room for all her stuffies.</div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
See how one thing leads to another and another.........</div>

My projects were featured on Build Something's <a href="https://www.instagram.com/build_something/">Instagram</a> account yesterday and <a href="https://www.facebook.com/buildsomething/?fref=ts">Facebook</a> today!!!!</div>

<strong>This is a HUGE deal for ME!!!!</strong></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love building and creating and to have such an awesome online community share my work</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
just about knocked me off my feet!!!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
The pictures on the left are free plans that you can find on Build Something.</div>
<div style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
The pictures on the right are my take on them.</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
The workbench is made by Brad the creative force behind <a href="http://fixthisbuildthat.com/">Fix This Build That</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
Brad's plans are just awesome! So easy to follow!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was able to build the workbench in a weekend.</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
Which is a good thing because my youngest has requested one of her own.</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
Luckily, the plans are easily adaptable.</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
Because I am going to need to make it a few inches taller for her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
The tool box is made by Jen the creative force behind <a href="http://jenwoodhouse.com/">The House of Wood</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made the tool box after seeing Jen's photo on Build Something.</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
I honestly did not use her plans. </div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
However, I did look them over just now and they seem super easy to follow!</div>
<div class="separator" style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="border-image: none; clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you haven't heard of Build Something, it is this AWESOME online community of builders.</div>

A while back I spotted an easel in Michael's flyer. I knew my girls would love it. So I snap a picture with my phone and added it to my DIY inspiration album (doesn't everyone have one on their phone).</div>

The great part about this is I wrote up plans over at <a href="https://www.buildsomething.com/plans/P6686DB9D2B799E92/ChildsCollapsibleEasel">Build Something</a>. If you would like to make your own or just see how I did you should stop by. This is a great online community for builders. You can find free plans and get some support from others. You don't have to join but I recommend you do (it's free).</div>
<div style="border-image: none;">

<div style="border-image: none;">
If you do make one please post a picture and tag #sawitmadeit. I would love to see your version!</div>

My youngest loves her dolls! She loves playing with them, combing their hair and dressing them. Because of this, she also has a LOT of clothes. Clothes that I find everywhere, except for that shirt she just has to have and then I have to look everywhere for it! Hopefully, this DIY doll closet/vanity will help both from happening anymore. You notice I said hopefully!<br />
<br />
<br />
This was a really quick and easy project. Sadly, I didn't take any pictures while doing it. So I will just tell you what I did.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPwJx2vguGu3cPPobjj78VLZTRdQZlRsnWFtbe_FXjOJRcTB0_C9yfFs_QzjhFvbnM18gClscPrKOSs57Q5P4dBrkvUb5wigizBdBYWux552qMG5W9jQAyFmg3SCdCwGeY_8lFbWnOZVH5/s1600/IMG_20160110_081902.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPwJx2vguGu3cPPobjj78VLZTRdQZlRsnWFtbe_FXjOJRcTB0_C9yfFs_QzjhFvbnM18gClscPrKOSs57Q5P4dBrkvUb5wigizBdBYWux552qMG5W9jQAyFmg3SCdCwGeY_8lFbWnOZVH5/s320/IMG_20160110_081902.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I used this <a href="http://www.homedepot.com/p/Houseworks-Crates-and-Pallet-18-in-x-12-5-in-x-9-5-in-Large-Wood-Crate-94565/203153338">wood crate</a> for the closet and spray painted it white. The rod is a half inch dowel that I cut to fit and spray painted. I attached it to the crate using gorilla wood glue and a brad nailer. I cut the bottom shelf to fit, painted and attached it as I did the rod. The green buckets I found at the dollar store (originally I had two yellow buckets that I spray painted to match but they started to flake off after a day of use. So that little diy experiment was a big fail).<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1qyFzTn-HEjtEpPO812eGKV6kOVt59Kmu_R2-0DS9r6VgMjOMJJbBVyyChaR7xj0HkjYbdsJ14yFb9iW0HC8YsfUPAfSQE5DciFQ5fMh7g1YlHafh_AWzvvx6EZLi_tVGTVjsirTfZEI8/s1600/IMG_20160110_082113.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1qyFzTn-HEjtEpPO812eGKV6kOVt59Kmu_R2-0DS9r6VgMjOMJJbBVyyChaR7xj0HkjYbdsJ14yFb9iW0HC8YsfUPAfSQE5DciFQ5fMh7g1YlHafh_AWzvvx6EZLi_tVGTVjsirTfZEI8/s320/IMG_20160110_082113.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The vanity was really simply as well. I used scrap wood for the desk. I spray painted it to match the rod and attached it just like everything else. The mirror is $1 wood frame I found at a local craft store and spray painted. I had some scrap mirror left over from another project that I cut to fit. I used gorilla glue to attach the mirror to the frame. The seat is a little wood crate I found at Target in the dollar bin section by chance. I glued a scrap piece of wood to the back, spray painted it and was done!<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
It's said that the imitation is the best form of flattery and I agree!<br />
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
When I first saw <a href="http://this%20jewelry%20organizer/">this jewelry organizer</a> on Pinterest I knew I wanted to make it for my daughter's Christmas gift. I kept putting it off and before I knew it, there was less than <strong>2</strong> weeks until Christmas. Working full-time third shift, I figured there was no way I could get it done. I gave in and decided to make her a mirror, like I made myself using this <a href="http://www.shanty-2-chic.com/2012/05/15-diy-mirror.html">tutorial</a>. (It just so happens that both mirrors are created by <a href="http://shanty%202%20chic/">Shanty 2 Chic</a>. If you haven't every checked them out, do so!!!!) Once I got to my favorite orange store, I just could not give up on my original plan. Not having the plans for the one I saw I decided to wing it and create my own.<br />
<br />
<br />
Here's what I did.....<br />
<div style="border-image: none;">
I knew I wanted a cork board on the back side of the mirror. By using my router, I was able to inset the mirror and place the cork board on the back. </div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWTVh7a2R2Mj9Kt_gRrKwreRQoTjDYZzVBMXHLguUfm-NwA0tEOMU_zizTi9H3OsE1nhIKBMQisaA_V1QNpOglo5OMkI_bxN9nB0IJIYFIN-gCu0Hv64nc_1ZxaZ0tpyHjeo754KdqognA/s1600/20151217_130007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWTVh7a2R2Mj9Kt_gRrKwreRQoTjDYZzVBMXHLguUfm-NwA0tEOMU_zizTi9H3OsE1nhIKBMQisaA_V1QNpOglo5OMkI_bxN9nB0IJIYFIN-gCu0Hv64nc_1ZxaZ0tpyHjeo754KdqognA/s320/20151217_130007.jpg" width="180" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Here you can see the grove for the mirror and cork board.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="border-image: none;">
I then used J hooks for holding the necklaces. I placed dowels vertically to hold both rings and bracelets. I placed one 1/2" dowel across for bracelets with a clasp. My daughter loves earrings and I knew her collection would only continue to grow. I struggled with the idea of how to store them. Finally, I decided to use the plastic canvas I used as a child for cross stitching. It works <strong>GREAT!!!</strong> I used J hooks again, along with binding rings to hang it up (after about a hour on Christmas day, my daughter and had attached all her earrings to the canvas). I left one shelf for her to use as storage. </div>
<div style="border-image: none;">
<br /></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I just love the gold!!!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="border-image: none;">
The last step was to add the hinges. I figured all hinges were the same, sadly they are not. The ones I purchased would not work. Because I created the door to sit right on the frame, the only hinges I could use were the European hinges. Let me tell you, when I discovered this I almost scraped the whole thing. Those hinges scared me!!!! What if I attempted and I ruined the cabinet?!?!?! I sucked it up, bought the hinges and the drill bit and said here goes. Guess what I did it!!!!!!! And to tell the truth I could not be prouder of myself.</div>

With only a few days left in 2015, my to-build list for 2016 is getting very long. <br />
<br />
<br />
The first build is going to be not one but two of these <a href="http://fixthisbuildthat.com/diy-kids-workbench-plans/">DIY Kids Workbench</a> by Fix This Build That. One is for my nephew who turns 3 in February. The second is for my youngest. My hope is that she will leave my workbench and tools alone. Not sure if it will work but any excuse to build is a good excuse!<br />
<br />
I also have a book shelf, a couple table top easels, a washer/dryer pedestals, a raised dog storage/food tray and a few other things. <br />
<br />
<br />
One of those other things being a new cat tower. If you remember from this <a href="http://sawitmadeit.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-project-that-started-it-all.html">post,</a> I built a cat tower for our cat back at the end of 2013. With the addition of another cat the tower no longer looks like this....<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I still can't believe I built this with no plans</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
But actually like this....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3BEvjENMb_DYZpXbpVPLw2SquVrddEuJc2tqNPuwV1xFZnoIhTZ1csUhnPOxyXmAXWybNXV7MdjmktKm4H6MbznLlFAtfGaDKmZZQjb8FzHubaAbNCKAE7pYV8jiBQuno_zG1HxqCsxbF/s1600/IMG_20151222_074223.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3BEvjENMb_DYZpXbpVPLw2SquVrddEuJc2tqNPuwV1xFZnoIhTZ1csUhnPOxyXmAXWybNXV7MdjmktKm4H6MbznLlFAtfGaDKmZZQjb8FzHubaAbNCKAE7pYV8jiBQuno_zG1HxqCsxbF/s320/IMG_20151222_074223.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
I am not complaining, mind you. Thanks to that tower, our furniture has been spared! I will share the progress of the new one, so stay tuned.<br />
<br />
<br />
What do you have planned for 2016?<br />
<br /></div>

At Thanksgiving there was still some pie leftover and I left my plate behind. I wasn't worried about getting it back. To make it easier for it to be returned, I came up with an idea. I would add our name to plate! I wasn't thinking with a piece of tape and sharpie. What I had in mind was more permanent. I wanted to etch it on the plate!!!<br />
<br /><br />
<br />
I gathered my supplies.....<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS2Qbfler71HLy4VPLpP2xsIgWQFfI_Gk3lvqEXHEoXonktNEVWyghkMDw-lgecnd3vrYxyvZS8O8IDljkzNyYWsOjYR67nO8Js4y-hHSJufDZqJsfbdWs39iSlJW3uGscNX9nIljpQ3YU/s1600/20141222_055644.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgS2Qbfler71HLy4VPLpP2xsIgWQFfI_Gk3lvqEXHEoXonktNEVWyghkMDw-lgecnd3vrYxyvZS8O8IDljkzNyYWsOjYR67nO8Js4y-hHSJufDZqJsfbdWs39iSlJW3uGscNX9nIljpQ3YU/s1600/20141222_055644.jpg" width="225" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I have had this bottle of etching cream for <br />
over 10 years and it still works great. </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
After I washed and dried my plate, I attached the stencils<span style="font-size: x-small;"> (I like to hold the plate up to light after I attach the stencils. This allows me to make sure the placement is where I want it)</span>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh91M_6A7JYG1IJdhd-N02P49I7f0ShNo587JRg3BrZYv49uV_n5Qd90S6kX9lkbV_M61Y5zXJa2e0sFI9kVLvGvkTm8XheeXfuOlnFSARcIDwacEeuVzIDn-HjaxHQuiBk8P6io4V_fSGc/s1600/20141222_060240.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh91M_6A7JYG1IJdhd-N02P49I7f0ShNo587JRg3BrZYv49uV_n5Qd90S6kX9lkbV_M61Y5zXJa2e0sFI9kVLvGvkTm8XheeXfuOlnFSARcIDwacEeuVzIDn-HjaxHQuiBk8P6io4V_fSGc/s1600/20141222_060240.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Then I added a thick layer etching cream. I had to be careful here and make sure I only got the cream where I wanted it. The etching cream is basically an acid. Once it has done it's job, there is no way to reverse it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu3ITHlFbOi-5_Hpvn6ohyphenhyphene_MYbDY33Fb7JOqBZhOflaHdbiSRlv9N8De1aZrLhzON5tZ7eAXGOHGMsFeHp3dUa6LrbF4JNVQttJC-PTfBg2VKAHwghiIcG7eT_MQ0fyqhyH_p_Kt9SPQ0/s1600/20141222_073742.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu3ITHlFbOi-5_Hpvn6ohyphenhyphene_MYbDY33Fb7JOqBZhOflaHdbiSRlv9N8De1aZrLhzON5tZ7eAXGOHGMsFeHp3dUa6LrbF4JNVQttJC-PTfBg2VKAHwghiIcG7eT_MQ0fyqhyH_p_Kt9SPQ0/s1600/20141222_073742.jpg" width="225" /></a></div>
<br />
I let the plate set for 5-6 minutes. Using running water and a rag, I rinsed the cream off <span style="font-size: x-small;">(before removing the stencils I hold the plate up to the light to make sure I didn't miss any spots)</span>. <span style="color: blue;">As a side note after I finish rinsing the plate off, I clean both my work area and sink with bleach to remove any acid left behind.</span><br />
<br />
I wash the plate with soap and water (<span style="font-size: x-small;">etching is dishwasher safe)</span> and it is done!<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's the story of how my adventure in building began.......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It was Thanksgiving of 2013, the family and I were studying all the black Friday sales (who doesn't). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When my then 4 year old daughter says " Mom...Greenie (our cat who's real name is Greenfella)needs this" </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
and points to a very small, flimsy cat tower for a whooping</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
$70 </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
at on of the pet stores.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I say "Not for that price, I can make one cheaper than that."</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At this point I have no idea how to use power tools or even the slightest idea how to build such a thing. Like any good DIY'er, I went to my best friend Pinterest and starting looking for a tutorial. I found many inspirational pictures but no how-to's. At this point I am determined, so I get some paper, a pencil and draw a rough idea of what I want. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once I came up with my "plans" I approached my husband. To ask what I might need for wood. He gave me his advice, never truly believing I would undertake such a project (he should of known better). The next day the girls and set out to Home Depot on our own. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once we got home I <strike>made</strike> asked my husband to show me how to use his tools. After a quick how-to from him, followed by a very firm I was doing it on my own. I set out to build. Now remind you this was last year well before I even thought about blogging. I did however, take pictures of the various steps to share with family along the way. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now I will share them with you......</div>

I can't even tell you how proud of this I am. Not only was it my first building project, it was my very own design. Is it perfect, heck no but Greenie didn't mind. The best part I built it for less that $60. Now remember the one that started this whole adventure was $60. However, that one wasn't even half the size of this one. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A year later Greenie still uses it daily. I call that a DIY win!!!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I have seen a lot of pallet signs lately.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Even though I really like them, I have hesitated to make them.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I don't have a fancy machine to make my stencils or vinyl decals.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then I realized that I should try to make my own stencil.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I figured one of two things could happen.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I might ruin a some wood I got for free</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
or</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I might make a really great sign.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So I gave it a try.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I searched for an image that I could use as a template.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I printed out one that I thought would work and traced it on to some left over contact paper.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After it was cut out, I stuck it on the sign I had made.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpkUS6YLC-fgdtfIszq5J112bbGFb4sXushVn4K6syUORj2HFA29fqRppR6ATblOwc1Conm0J6VfXe8Md7N8Wv776vpaFkjGgzwTq8LhmXnrs0X2emn3AI9iGMaUeyhrwH5qK4rqE6j0R6/s1600/20141017_110346.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpkUS6YLC-fgdtfIszq5J112bbGFb4sXushVn4K6syUORj2HFA29fqRppR6ATblOwc1Conm0J6VfXe8Md7N8Wv776vpaFkjGgzwTq8LhmXnrs0X2emn3AI9iGMaUeyhrwH5qK4rqE6j0R6/s1600/20141017_110346.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then I painted over it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQjlCfKlYHWoBMHlOgZPOXsP2F6XymqxaDg4XQpaLplhDzHWcUjXGYaj1ZgQZHQZpHkehW8LVX3uTZo16Et4xcpjoF2FdgAsfRQPMHjlwNxqYj4DJRKkVGR5ME7FECZO3A3sYPZqohhVHY/s1600/20141017_110900.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQjlCfKlYHWoBMHlOgZPOXsP2F6XymqxaDg4XQpaLplhDzHWcUjXGYaj1ZgQZHQZpHkehW8LVX3uTZo16Et4xcpjoF2FdgAsfRQPMHjlwNxqYj4DJRKkVGR5ME7FECZO3A3sYPZqohhVHY/s1600/20141017_110900.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Once the paint was dry, I removed the stencil.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLcRbQ5UKWZAnpcbQlUWp3YxNsznnL027DTOlYMXlkfq_26-D6NuBH8zpBFtS944M8GGWLiYJydG8_wn9UhVVzboTWaG0nVi3tMiRPPFf2Y12GSXjXWEQiRdExJRM2jTyDXRZN39FS1MSD/s1600/20141017_113540.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLcRbQ5UKWZAnpcbQlUWp3YxNsznnL027DTOlYMXlkfq_26-D6NuBH8zpBFtS944M8GGWLiYJydG8_wn9UhVVzboTWaG0nVi3tMiRPPFf2Y12GSXjXWEQiRdExJRM2jTyDXRZN39FS1MSD/s1600/20141017_113540.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></div>
<br />
<div align="center">
I could of stopped there but I wanted it look a bit older.</div>
<div align="center">
So I grabbed the sander and ended up with this.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGw5f-34VWsDjYMmWgj9UHTwj-WGv0pdt1bhEr98SqAH1Nm5EtgdTXLqzKuSiXpiQdE9x2a6wtN4yDtqPcyih5sleZUshOnqT10xa4kYl9lFy9qGnOE_yOV0cQNiLooDWrx3Y_y4PyelV-/s1600/20141020_084821.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGw5f-34VWsDjYMmWgj9UHTwj-WGv0pdt1bhEr98SqAH1Nm5EtgdTXLqzKuSiXpiQdE9x2a6wtN4yDtqPcyih5sleZUshOnqT10xa4kYl9lFy9qGnOE_yOV0cQNiLooDWrx3Y_y4PyelV-/s1600/20141020_084821.jpg" height="225" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I don't think I did to bad for making my own decal.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What do you think?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="color: blue; font-size: x-small;">I apologise for the picture quality. I made this before deciding to blog.</span></div>
</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I got a new toy for Christmas from Jeff and the girls.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It wasn't something I asked for or even thought I wanted.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
With that said I love it!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Want to know what it is??????</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I got <a href="http://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-12-in-Miter-Box-with-Saw-121BSB14/204787577">12" miter box and saw</a> from Home Depot.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I could not wait to try it out.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYlqMNLteUwVNzq4jm5dME01dutC7ZC4MGXNDAGGEAnn-y8M0NJw56Tx2Rl7ct8sF022wTp7ffc_aVNq9rpGP7W9Qc4yNAMuQPlupo_rXqnnhrfXnXEM5eKMw3sI72IygZHJ_a5BR7_ql_/s1600/20141231_054432.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYlqMNLteUwVNzq4jm5dME01dutC7ZC4MGXNDAGGEAnn-y8M0NJw56Tx2Rl7ct8sF022wTp7ffc_aVNq9rpGP7W9Qc4yNAMuQPlupo_rXqnnhrfXnXEM5eKMw3sI72IygZHJ_a5BR7_ql_/s1600/20141231_054432.jpg" height="225" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Because this is a 12" box and my wood obviously is not,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I clamp the wood to the box to keep it secure.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This worked great (and saved my fingers).</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I loved how the slits in the box kept the saw in place.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Each cut was straight!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKNukTS-Cv0LVuKkWTOqPUDDUgCs9ABXCBZs3iPsP_GWwGT3Lq7Kcy0UtmBwfIzeRFtueEW7HSSR1NJCyZl03FyS-d-QvM_NhO2lbpF8U_nEDHf5HKl4h6YzORFLFfGA1LG5uZWRQK2J6L/s1600/20141231_060919.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKNukTS-Cv0LVuKkWTOqPUDDUgCs9ABXCBZs3iPsP_GWwGT3Lq7Kcy0UtmBwfIzeRFtueEW7HSSR1NJCyZl03FyS-d-QvM_NhO2lbpF8U_nEDHf5HKl4h6YzORFLFfGA1LG5uZWRQK2J6L/s1600/20141231_060919.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The other thing I did was attach the box</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
to a scrap piece of 2 x 4.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I don't like things permanently attached to my workbench.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
By attaching it to the 2 x 4, I am able to secure the box with my clamps.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I like not having to use the chop saw all the time now.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I can make quick cuts while the family is sleeping, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
something I could not do before.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Another, great benefit is my arms are getting stronger.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I can see myself definitely using this a lot!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

His mom and I took to Pinterest to see what we could come up with as inspiration. After a bit of messaging pins back and forth we decided on a design. <br />
<br />
Once I knew what I was building, I could not wait to get started. I gathered my supplies and got to work.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrpb-xLEyEfTGUsaWTQcigLAp1BcX1S3XHnIj_mTuca1kiZsOzkyGMhRWJ2y6aduk5i8IvOeLubsfRwd7FJKkMZMXP2T00STc32lwEA4H9uAAJwIYxNLe-HLEj54go-SD5J2HC_AOxl2AD/s1600/20141219_163213.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrpb-xLEyEfTGUsaWTQcigLAp1BcX1S3XHnIj_mTuca1kiZsOzkyGMhRWJ2y6aduk5i8IvOeLubsfRwd7FJKkMZMXP2T00STc32lwEA4H9uAAJwIYxNLe-HLEj54go-SD5J2HC_AOxl2AD/s1600/20141219_163213.jpg" height="225" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Thankfully Kathie was able to supply the balls and glove.</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
I drilled a hole through the center of each ball. This was very easy but super messy. If you never knew what a ball was made of, I can tell you it is cork. After drilling four balls I could no longer see my floor under all the cork.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQQV0TBOPCn6WuKp8SrvMg4svmKuSAs04uAkPliBl7ocLpxpagwVdrXXDFFpeFgto7oSIYgj1XthKHgmrDhKbKjunClyZ_buPwpTHRFC5YtQRTNaXNF-dhqjPbGCrfrWs7U3Rfh4T8j2t5/s1600/20141219_162835.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQQV0TBOPCn6WuKp8SrvMg4svmKuSAs04uAkPliBl7ocLpxpagwVdrXXDFFpeFgto7oSIYgj1XthKHgmrDhKbKjunClyZ_buPwpTHRFC5YtQRTNaXNF-dhqjPbGCrfrWs7U3Rfh4T8j2t5/s1600/20141219_162835.jpg" height="225" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Once all the balls were drilled, I stacked them on the metal rod. Then I placed the rod on the glove and determined where I need to add a hole for the wire.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEpqlf8vtK8gg7JdxcUDLIz0gQgSUgblNH3wEBNyEgxtzJyJ45ecg8YVtgjaZrn_yTR4WBT6EQD6Q_OiA2ZmFF32eh0dkqCHYaGtPULlCSGPi4WXBi2LocwlbXKlNGKWnnjUG2lgH3Vf-M/s1600/20141220_063051.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEpqlf8vtK8gg7JdxcUDLIz0gQgSUgblNH3wEBNyEgxtzJyJ45ecg8YVtgjaZrn_yTR4WBT6EQD6Q_OiA2ZmFF32eh0dkqCHYaGtPULlCSGPi4WXBi2LocwlbXKlNGKWnnjUG2lgH3Vf-M/s1600/20141220_063051.jpg" height="320" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Using my staple gun, I attached the glove to base that I had already prepared.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXTsfhgM_5XMpdEUqvw59XJyZ_MsyNu_nP_n50N6NuzHIeiyxQH0GFh_x5X7bpfb8VZSn8QNCHoEl009MDSxMvrwJAt4yq2jjs0bkIJXeh57WxMbbZatCq6CRcCA9_q_qzMxEUB909ECFp/s1600/20141220_065704.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXTsfhgM_5XMpdEUqvw59XJyZ_MsyNu_nP_n50N6NuzHIeiyxQH0GFh_x5X7bpfb8VZSn8QNCHoEl009MDSxMvrwJAt4yq2jjs0bkIJXeh57WxMbbZatCq6CRcCA9_q_qzMxEUB909ECFp/s1600/20141220_065704.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I ran the wiring. Wiring a lamp is really pretty easy. I purchase the complete kit and followed the directions. Be aware though, they do sell a three-way light kit and a regular kit. I made the mistake of grabbing the three-way kit and had to go back and purchase the correct light bulbs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDOBJQcGkiw5KtZ_feTC1aQCqiOkcWsR9_4N6vDYET95SQT-qWBOJPf1HIXN8dwhyDIS3nptwxV-iICREXmIXB4dKAcQ0KsLwEXkLrCLjbW_mpIx59cDIcHN7Y0QTvJAlrUXorxug_Kjhv/s1600/20141220_070140.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDOBJQcGkiw5KtZ_feTC1aQCqiOkcWsR9_4N6vDYET95SQT-qWBOJPf1HIXN8dwhyDIS3nptwxV-iICREXmIXB4dKAcQ0KsLwEXkLrCLjbW_mpIx59cDIcHN7Y0QTvJAlrUXorxug_Kjhv/s1600/20141220_070140.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></div>
<br />
I attached the balls by screwing three screws into the bottom of the base up into the balls. All that was left to do was add the lamp shade.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDZO0_kjdK-7CgKX44il2udXyxCH4JDs1gDvqk5mkq2tPEMFWXfd3PmmCr5Syqz2k8nYwA2MVk-dqq9Afw0GSuKFaJlaTFaAFTrqncKlG4N1mvkg3P0nvp_T_eoYPRn0pg7ulkjqSgOSVF/s1600/20141224_053607.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDZO0_kjdK-7CgKX44il2udXyxCH4JDs1gDvqk5mkq2tPEMFWXfd3PmmCr5Syqz2k8nYwA2MVk-dqq9Afw0GSuKFaJlaTFaAFTrqncKlG4N1mvkg3P0nvp_T_eoYPRn0pg7ulkjqSgOSVF/s1600/20141224_053607.jpg" height="400" width="225" /></a></div>
<br />
I absolutely love how this turned out. <br />
<br />
What do you think....would you use it???<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Last year in our family we made a big change to Christmas. We decided to start doing more memory creating and less material giving. One of the steps we took in doing that was to move to the<span style="color: magenta;"> 4</span> gifts idea for the girls. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There are four types of gifts you give.....something to wear, need, read and want. Now to be honest we decided to add in a few presents. Each girl purchases a gift for her sister and Santa still brings each girl one gift but that was going to be it. Notice how I said was going to be??? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As we explained this to the girls, our oldest asked if we could include one more gift. She still wanted a homemade gift from me, I just have to say <span style="color: #674ea7; font-size: large;">I love her</span>!!!!!! With a request like that how could we say no???</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Honestly the girls (or our wallet) did not miss the extra gifts. On my part selecting the gifts was so much fun!! Jeff and I put so much thought in each gift. With only 5 gifts, we wanted them to be extra special and really fit each girl. It was a success. We spent over 2 hours opening presents and had the best Christmas morning! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We are doing it again this year and again we wanted the gifts to be special. When it came time to start on the homemade gift, I was having a hard time figuring out what to make, until we were decorating the tree. As the girls pulled out their ornaments out of the crumpled, torn gift bag they are kept in I knew what to make.......a storage box for their Christmas Decorations.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I immediately started searching for something on Pinterest and Google. Thankfully, I came across a blog called <a href="http://theprojectlady.blogspot.com/2012/09/wood-storage-chest-make-your-own.html">The Project Lady</a>. The one she had made was close to what I had in mind. With just a few changes it would be perfect!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A trip to Lowe's was needed (sadly Home Depot does not sell furring strips). Once home I spent about a hour with my saw......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The plans offered two methods for attaching the base of the chest. You could either screw it on or use a router to fit it. Not one to pass up a challenge of master a new tool, I decided to use a router. Jeff (<span style="font-size: x-small;">who usually show's me the ropes with tools</span>) had never used a router either, so I was on my own using it. I was a <strike>little</strike> lot intimated of using one with no guidance but to be honest it was really easy! I might even look for a new project just to use it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Building the box went really quick. After a quick over all sanding, I was ready to finish the boxes. I decided to use a whitewash to paint the boxes. Whitewashing allows the grain of the wood to show but adds a touch of color. I think it was the perfect choice for this project.</div>

<span style="font-size: x-small;">*In case you were wondering about the changes I made to the original plans.....</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">I cut my boards for the top at 27" vs 25.5". This makes the top fit the box instead of just the opening. I also used hinges instead of rope to attach the top. While I liked the look of rope, I knew it wasn't right for my boxes.</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love making gifts for people but I have to admit sometimes creating a gift for a guy can be difficult. When I come across an idea I jump on it. I have been wanting to make something for my brother for awhile now. The problem was I just could not decide what to make. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I decided to scroll through Pinterest and see what I could come with. Although there was a lot of great ideas, nothing spoke to me. Then I decided to do a search looking for <span style="color: blue;">DIY plumbing crafts</span> (he is a plumber after all). That was the key!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I found this <a href="https://www.pinterest.com/pin/489273946990012594/">pin</a> and it spoke to me!! I headed off to my favorite antiques/jack of all store (Jellison Trader's). There I was able to find the board and knobs. I was stuck on how to attach the knobs to the board. Then I decide that a trip to Home Depot was in order. After much help and discussion (I<span style="font-size: x-small;"> love when have to explain the use of something other than the original purpose</span>), I settled on bolts, washers and nuts.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

When I was a kid on of the best things about playing in the snow was coming in for <span style="color: #660000;">hot chocolate</span><span style="color: black;">. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEV3ZE4zJKPUdMus_420tDtLBaRxSo5pyetPpFxVJuNlwGM24uF7Yx5LAtXGU5Lt31Sbr8ouaEu4goH-pRZz7g3dROq2-ilm7U88inEPbW0UrUeS3FwyZR2mB5AYVuPbuZt2IrbDVFt-PA/s1600/1468677_763389917007677_1420344980_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEV3ZE4zJKPUdMus_420tDtLBaRxSo5pyetPpFxVJuNlwGM24uF7Yx5LAtXGU5Lt31Sbr8ouaEu4goH-pRZz7g3dROq2-ilm7U88inEPbW0UrUeS3FwyZR2mB5AYVuPbuZt2IrbDVFt-PA/s1600/1468677_763389917007677_1420344980_n.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="color: black;"></span><br />
<span style="color: black;">The melting marshmallows and warm feeling in your tummy, there was nothing better. No matter how old I get, there is something comforting about hot chocolate.</span><br />
<span style="color: black;"></span><br />
<span style="color: black;">When I started seeing hot chocolate sticks every where I turned, I knew I had to give it a try.</span><br />
<br />
Most of the supplies I already had. The one thing I did need was the mold, which is actually a <a href="http://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?id=AF414343-1E0B-C910-EAF4100780D53DC6">bite size brownie tray</a>. Using a coupon I was able to get it half price at Michael's.<br />
<br />
Thanks to the different flavors of melting chocolate, I was able to make a few "recipes". My girls like plain old fashion hot chocolate and marshmallows. On the other hand. I love the flavor of salted caramel chocolates. Using caramel melting chocolates and<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Trader-Joes-Himalayan-Crystals-Grinder/dp/B0078HXBN6"> Himalayan pink salt</a> (I got mine at Trader Joe's), I was able to make it. I also had dark chocolate flavor which I paired up with candy cane pieces that I found.<br />
<br />
I melted the chocolate in the microwave (<span style="font-size: x-small;">you can also use a double boiler</span>). I started with 1 minute, then 30 seconds, stirring each time. Once the chocolate was all melted I poured it into the mold. I added the topping depending on the flavor of the chocolate and added a stick. You don't even have to use a stick. I have seen ones made with spoons and candy canes. There are a lot of possibilities!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia9RKH1F3Xd3sIpj-L2bG6Av1n_3zKZO2sP5kyaQbX2iuT2SO1vOV4nREB9IfQUbMh9pvLQJAn9DiX0auKOY4A5yesJ-GlS_C-W1RXRTf36LVvCY8sinEPmcz9u_VEgzny16WcHTL-ZKJu/s1600/IMG_20141123_074204.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia9RKH1F3Xd3sIpj-L2bG6Av1n_3zKZO2sP5kyaQbX2iuT2SO1vOV4nREB9IfQUbMh9pvLQJAn9DiX0auKOY4A5yesJ-GlS_C-W1RXRTf36LVvCY8sinEPmcz9u_VEgzny16WcHTL-ZKJu/s1600/IMG_20141123_074204.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once the chocolate had harden, I removed the sticks from the tray. You could speed up the process by placing them in your freezer or outdoors depending on where you live. I bagged each one and attached a little tag. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
This was my first time making this one.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I crochet tight and usually have to adjust the pattern. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Not this time!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Her pattern was spot on.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I might just make one for myself.</div>

<br />
<br />
<br />
I made this cutie with this <a href="http://www.repeatcrafterme.com/2013/04/crochet-lamb-hat-pattern.html">pattern</a>.<br />
I absoluletly love the patterns over at <a href="http://www.repeatcrafterme.com/">Repeat Crafter Me</a>.<br />
She has a ton to choose from.<br />
(<span style="font-size: x-small;">I highly recommended checking out her blog</span>)<br />
All of the patterns include multiple sizes and great pictures.<br />
Oh and I almost forgot they are FREE!!!!!<br />
<span style="font-size: x-small;">(I love free stuff, don't you?)</span><br />
I honestly thought it would be time consuming. <br />
I can't tell you how excited I was when I finish in <span style="color: magenta;">one</span> day.<br />

<br />
<br />
I didn't use a pattern on this one.<br />
I based it off <a href="http://sawitmadeit.blogspot.com/2014/12/hats-hats-and-more-hats.html">one I made</a> using this <a href="http://www.repeatcrafterme.com/2012/04/crochet-owl-hat-pattern.html">pattern</a>.<br />
I love how it turned out.<br />
It has already received high praise from my youngest.<br />
I think she might of been hinting that she wanted one.<br />
I'll make hers right after I finish mine.<br />

Have a thing about an old window. When I find one I have a hard time leaving it behind. There are just so many ways to repurpose a window. A few weeks ago at Jellison Trader's (<span style="font-size: x-small;">my favorite store, really</span>) there was one that I really liked, so it came home with me.<br />
<br />
It really was the best thing for the window and myself. The window is getting a new life and I don't have to keep thinking I should of bought it. See it's a <span style="color: #c27ba0;">win-win</span>. I have been wanting inspiration board of some type to hang in my craft room for a while. This window is going to fulfill that want.<br />

I wanted a mirror in the middle and chicken wire on each side (sort like this <a href="http://sawitmadeit.blogspot.com/2014/12/a-new-use-for-old-window.html">one</a> I did). The first step I did was to remove the glass and paint the frame. Once that was done it was time to tackle the mirror.Mirror glass can be expensive when you need to purchase a specific size. Luckily I had taken a stained glass course many years ago and can cut my own glass. Purchasing glass at a glass shop off the rack can still be pricey. In order to save money I purchase a full length mirror ( sorta like<a href="http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-Over-The-Door-Ornate-Door-Mirror/36775387"> this</a>) when I need it. <br />
<br />
The frames on the mirrors are really flimsy, making them easy to take apart. When I bought the one for a side of the frame had already fallen off (I<span style="font-size: x-small;"> was able to get a discount and paid less than $3</span>) and the rest fell off before I even got home. When I got home all I had left to do was to measure the panel opening and cut the mirror.<br />

<div align="center">
Each year I make my girls a new Christmas ornament (you can read about it<a href="http://sawitmadeit.blogspot.com/2014/12/traditions-christmas.html"> here</a>). </div>
<div align="center">
Last year I started making personalized blocks.<br />
While making this years, I decided to take pictures for a little how to.<br />
<br />
For our blocks I use the photo from the Christmas card, a photo of a special event during the year, a drawing each girl has done and a transcript of their annual interview.<br />
I like to ask the same questions each year. I enjoying see how or if their taste changes.<br />
As they get older, I'm sure I will have to change the questions.<br />
<br />
To get started you will need<br />
Mod Podge<br />
Pictures <br />
Block of wood at least 2.5 x 2.5<br />
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">I purchased mine at Michael's and cut it into the blocks. </span><br />
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">You can purchase the single blocks at AC Moore.</span><br />
<span style="color: #6aa84f;">Remember to use a coupon at either store.</span><br />
<span style="color: black;">Foam Brush</span><br />
Paint <br />
Sand Paper<br />
Hook<br />
Small piece of ribbon or twine<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZczQAytFHeE5Z6NtTLHBryIaPSrie1wZ7EbLP8KRw0liOEYlfOiXSX1iL_4ULslkgzwPtjmx9ozxiulYkF33jWepZDSbXpJzND3w9TcnrKt84YvBrXYeK4qZ3JmopXAeyC8nXTouow-dB/s1600/20141212_170847.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZczQAytFHeE5Z6NtTLHBryIaPSrie1wZ7EbLP8KRw0liOEYlfOiXSX1iL_4ULslkgzwPtjmx9ozxiulYkF33jWepZDSbXpJzND3w9TcnrKt84YvBrXYeK4qZ3JmopXAeyC8nXTouow-dB/s1600/20141212_170847.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I make copies of the photos/drawings to get them to fit the block.<br />
I do this at Wal-Green's.<br />
I have found that their wallet size print (<span style="font-size: x-small;">4 pictures on a 4x6</span>) is just the right size for the block.<br />
You can do this anywhere as long as the final picture fits the block.<br />
<br />
Using the block as a template I trim the pictures down to fit. <br />
I also paint my block (<span style="font-size: x-small;">although you don't have to</span>). I have used acrylic and spray paint and had success with both.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho4OkLvrzjrnJr4V9QLE805Z0xuyzWrlO6PamEJ5wVSjLIq7MgV5dpvUWH23d5EFsEi-r2f43e8N1Dkj54-_m-E2H6QQKR86bvGqEu7IYLTILYRYyon8F_3KHSlxRdARGJ_XelyHYKM2Tk/s1600/20141212_171430.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho4OkLvrzjrnJr4V9QLE805Z0xuyzWrlO6PamEJ5wVSjLIq7MgV5dpvUWH23d5EFsEi-r2f43e8N1Dkj54-_m-E2H6QQKR86bvGqEu7IYLTILYRYyon8F_3KHSlxRdARGJ_XelyHYKM2Tk/s1600/20141212_171430.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Once I have done that I add coat of Mod Podge.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8tL6IYhgPtDDyXPQwGwoJPN_GuBDMWmiLLT6BrIfbsDHd6K3FHGWVjiRRWIiRJS8qsXD8nAQ_GXy_Vachn3n3kKIEDexcyC_jWG3xyWoyf0rXy-Qo-8xzpnTtJS12kSv7x__mUSfejLSM/s1600/20141212_171610.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8tL6IYhgPtDDyXPQwGwoJPN_GuBDMWmiLLT6BrIfbsDHd6K3FHGWVjiRRWIiRJS8qsXD8nAQ_GXy_Vachn3n3kKIEDexcyC_jWG3xyWoyf0rXy-Qo-8xzpnTtJS12kSv7x__mUSfejLSM/s1600/20141212_171610.jpg" height="640" width="360" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I lay the picture directly on top. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
