Wooden candles

A few weeks ago after seeing these on Pinterest, I was getting ready to go to Home Depot to purchase the 4x4. Right before I was leaving my husband stopped me. He wanted to show all the cleaning he had been doing around the around yard. Like a good wife I went. Can you imagine my surpise when what did my eyes spot in the wood pile......not one but TWO weathered old post beams.

I quickly grabbed them and headed to my work bench. Using the chop saw, I cut my candles at 8", 6" and 4". Once I had my pieces, I set out drill the holes. Even though I attempted to center my holes while drilling, that just did not happen. To be honest.....I really like them off set. I used spray paint but you could use any paint (or color) that you have on hand.

I purchased the candles at Michael's. With a coupon I was able to get a 24 pack of candles for less than $11. Thanks to the repurposed beam and coupon this was a very inexpensive DIY!!!

My original plan was to paint them. After sanding them down, I really liked them in their natural state. So I made a few of both. I figure the painted are great for Christmas and the others I can use year round.

I love the warmth they add to room without the fire hazard.  I don't have to worry about my girls or cat knocking them over. Or forgetting to blow them out.

I love this picture!

Which do you prefer.....the painted or natural???
